News & Projects

  • This week, on Friday April 4th, the debut album of the young Dutch harpist Marleen de Bakker will be released, which also includes my work "The Story of the Dragonfly" from 2013, a composition in two parts inspired by the four elements. Elements are substances or forces to which, according to ancient religions, everything on earth can be traced back: earth, water, air and fire. In this piece they form the backdrop of the (short) life of a dragonfly.
The sheet music is now also available from Donemus Publishing. Click here for more information about the album.

  • Worldpremiere of ‘Chorus of invisible Angels’ in the program Écoutez tous with Nederlands Gregoriaans Festival and Stichting Maurice Pirenne by Kamerkoor NEXT, with conductor Fokko Oldenhuis.
In the programme Écoutez tous! the Utrecht Chamber Choir NEXT conducted by Fokko Oldenhuis sings music from the Middle Ages to the present, about creation and destruction, about beginning and end, about accusation and grace. Where in the brand-new work by Rieteke Hölscher the creation and the fall of man are sung by angels, in the impressive Elégie pour les villes détruites by Ton de Leeuw the biblical destruction of Jerusalem and the similarly tragic fate of cities such as Berlin, Nagasaki and Rotterdam can be heard. Timeless Gregorian melodies, a source of inspiration for composers such as the Dutch Maurice Pirenne and namesake Duruflé, appear throughout the programme and connect ancient visions to new, polyphonic visions of the future.

    Program

Gregorian chants | Maurice Pirenne five motets | Gregorio Allegri Miserere mei, Deus | Rieteke Hölscher Chorus of invisible angels (world premiere) | Maurice Duruflé Quatre motets sur des thèmes grégoriens | Ton de Leeuw Elégie pour les villes détruites
